I'm in my local library and I just picked a book call The Awakening by Kate Chopin. Has anyone ever read it? if you have, please share it with me?

I read the book way back in the early 70s at the time of the popularity of feminist thought and social activism. At that time it was felt this was a book that illustrated the struggles of a ''liberated'' woman in an era and milieu of male oppression. The book was largely banned during the end of the Victorian/Edwardian era as it was felt that such a portrayal was close to being obscene. While the book has its merits, sadly, those merits are not very much. An interesting story with a bit of irony in the end, but not that great a book.

I love Chopin, and I thought The Awakening was a beautiful story. I think the Chopin is a very daring writer in her portal of women, and the way in which she challenged the status quo of the day. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would highly recommend reading some of Chopin's short stories.

I agree. I enjoyed The Awakening. I haven't read any of her short stories though.
