What a Beautiful Day it is in the Farmers Arms

The sun is out, though it's cold, rumour goes.
Funny how so many people say what a beautiful day,
when the light is through the thick eye of a window.
Of course they might have read the forecast,
or are keen to show they don’t stay here,
that they have a rich well rounded life
and only popped in for ten pints between
going for the paper and taking the kids on their bikes.
Cider seems luminous as the sun today
and I feel very much connected with things.
In this age of information I can see perfectly
by phone or text how my life is reducing
to a point where, like the glass, only air
and some light foam are left. I should see a doctor
but they are so rarely in the pub. There’s a man
who makes pies though , and I know it’s not
the same thing, but he says it’s a beautiful day too.

Great observation Hallaig. Love these lines:

to a point where, like the glass, only air
and some light foam are left.

Oh I don't know. After ten pints, the poem wouldn't have such rigid structure, which adds to the effect of it being a beautiful day...

Hallaig- I find that the poem captures the quiet solace a pub can offer when drowning one's hard moments in cider or whatever it is you drink. I am always a fan of a scene from a pub/bar and I think this one captures the scene quite well.

uff, I've just wrote sth longer and connection broke and I lost it. never mind. I was telling you I love this classy poem of yours and how it catches the protective atmosphere of a pub for one who's in a dark state of mind - I love pubs and beer! Kudos for this one, hallaig!! and thanks.

Wow. I love this meditation on life lived by looking out a window. That, sadly, kind of sums up my life right now.I'm always going to go out "tomorrow." I especially loved this line:

" only air
and some light foam are left"
