Embarrassment Humor

I just watched "Extras" - a popular show from a few years back, and entertaining, with the same guy who did "The Office" as many know. "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is another one that I liked. All these shows use a lot of embarrassment as humor. I'm not sure what other shows do this much, or when this all began really. I guess you could go back a long time to find examples of people acting like buffoons for laughs, though it seems to me these few shows are a pretty recent type of comedy, unlike much before them. Any others that work in a similar way and worth checking out?

I love 'Extras' it's so funny. I don't know if it's what you are thinking about but I loved 'Spaced' Simon Pegg is always a joy to watch.
