Prince Smiles

Hi, my name's Prince Smiles and I love books.
Heroes:
Charles Dickens and Isambard Kingdom Brunel
Both these great great men were born in my hometown, Portsmouth, Hampshire. Well, perhaps I should say I was born in their hometown. The three of us were born in Portsmouth.
That's about the only thing I have in common with them. I can nay compose a sentence like Mr. Dickens and the model of the Wharncliffe Viaduct I built in my garden bit the dust the day before the grand opening barbeque party.
I am a huge fan of 18th and 19th century literature.
A book that demands one to slow down and savour the prose is the perfect antidote for today's fast-paced lifestyle.
Here are 10 fav titles off the top of my head in no particular order:
Ann Radcliffe: The Italian
Chuck Dee: Great Expectations
Dostoyevsky: The Brothers Karamazov
Mikhail Bulgakov: The Master and Margarita
Robert A. Heinlein: A Stranger in a Strange Land
Malcolm Lowry: Under the Volcano
Evelyn Waugh: Brideshead Revisited
Salmon Rushdie: Satanic Verses
John Steinbeck: Travels with Charley
Alexandre Dumas: The Count of Monte Cristo
With much scraping and bowing,
Prince Smiles (15th Earl of Gurney)
