Electric or blade?

If the first, Ronson, Phillips or Braun?

If the latter, Gillette or Wilkinson Sword?

Or Schick/Gillette multi?

Generic or BiC disposable perhaps - if so, single or double blade?

Once a week or twice a day?

Do you prefer to do it the night before, or in a last mad-minute rush?

Electric - Braun - Only ever in my car, on my way to work.

Twice a day for me. Once first thing in the morning and again after my bath about 8 pm. Maybe once a week I 'rough it' and only shave once. I can't stand it though and don't feel clean without twice shaving.

I always use disposables. I once had an electric years ago and it wasn't very good. Currently I am using Tesco Matrix which are really good value and not far away from Gillette at about 1/4 the price. They are your typical triple/four blade things, throw away heads.

I usually go a long time between shaves, and so having a bunch of blades too close to each other or too far apart from each other is the biggest concern. I've found that the best ones for me are often switched out of stock, I have to get something else, and then I can't remember (months later) when I shop for them again which of the many other brands I might've had success with before. I've had good and bad, but only in exceptional cases do I remember which is which, because I always adapt and make do in the end.

Bic single blade usually carve me up a little, because I get used to just chopping away with the double blades. In every case, the triple blades jamm up almost immediately with the longish whiskers I let develop.

So, for me double blades are the best bet, about 75% of them work pretty well.

THE BEST EVER though, and I have no idea what brand it was, was a disposable that had a little strip of plastic between the twin blades, recessed about 2mm, and with a section of that plastic sticking out from behind, like a button. Pressing that extra "button" section would cause the rest to bend and extend out between the blades, clearing the whisker-jam completely. Wow, what indulgence that was, I'll take that bit of plastic over a third or fourth blade ANY day.

a woman here... A was amazed that you wanted to get such a straight razor. I wish you a lot of luck learning to work with it... Apparently for people who are not used to it, it's a death trap, but it also produces the best result (hence the reason why barbours still use it). Disposable ones came on the market because the straight razor was such a nuisance.

Anyway, if Mr kiki shaves, he does a wet shave once a week and electric for inbetweenies and trimming his beard. He used to go without shaving at all for about a week... Everything has its charm, I suppose...

I was a soap-and-razor man right up until my first “camping” trip with the United States Army. The Army expected us to shave in the field, and unlike the old “Steel Pots” a Kevlar helmet is useless as a basin. Also since water was sometimes scarce and dry shaving sucks, I switched for practicality purposes. The PX used to sell a AA-battery powered Braun for $9.95. Yeah baby!

I'm a sucker for all things nostalgic...

I swear I must have low testosterone despite all but one indication to the contrary because I'm 23 and only need to shave once a week. Its annoying because for 3 or 4 of those days I look like a teenager, people say 15 or 16. I heavily researched the whole "shave more and it'll grow faster thing" and apparently its a myth with nothing but anecdotes and unfounded belief to support it. My brother who is virtually my physical twin was growing thick goatees at my age. Ugh.
