When Walt Disney made nondescript cartoon characters to walk and talk, suddenly Mickey Mouse, Snow White etc became a world-wide phenomenon.
But animation was (and still is) generally regarded as entertainment for children.However, over the years, animation has taken a completely different form. The days are long gone when funny cartoon characters were made to do all sorts of mad things to entertain toddlers. The animated movies of today are made better not only by the advanced modern-day technology used in making them but also by the profound theme and strong message that they carry.
I recently got the opportunity to watch some of the latest animation flicks and I was completely blown away. In particular, the 2010 movie, "The Illusionist" was one of the best movies that I have ever seen. Others like Wall-E, Rango also carry strong messages potraying the major problems the world at large is facing today.
So, animated movies have dominated my list for this year and maybe for many more to come.
