I have been interested to read this book for a long time, and bought it today. Is there anyone here who has read this book by Frederick Forsyth? What is your opinion on it?

It has been a long time, but I read the book back when I was in high school but I to recall when I read it than that I quite enjoyed reading it. It was an interesting as well as fast paced book. It is a good book if you like action.

I read it and enjoyed it. I'd put it somewhere between LeCarré and Ian Fleming, in the mystery/espionage/thriller genre spectrum. Not exactly "literary", but not a completely outlandish superhero-type story, either. (I hasten to add that I like reading all three authors referred to in this post.) If you like reading books that seem a bit like good movies as you read them, there's a good chance you'll like it a lot.

about the planned assassination of Charles de Gaulle.A real page turner made into a thrilling movie.

One of those rare instances when the movie got me interested in the book. The movie is superb, the book is good/interesting enough to keep you turning the pages. And you might find yourself rooting for the jackal as I did. :-)

It's not really the type of novel I'd read because of my snobbish ways, but I watched the movie adaptation a few days ago, and it's an excellent, superbly-crafted thriller! Edward Fox was brilliant as the handsome, ruthless Jackal.
