Can you hear the rain out in the garden?
Striking the leaves and the bells of flowers,
And then, all of a sudden, the rain
Ceases, but gently from the trees falls slow,
As a king with raindrops on his face,
Holding a goblet upright in one hand,
Unhurriedly, climbs up the turret stairs
To see the beautiful princess with golden hair,
Who blows out her candle and weeps
In the pale room where the scent of lilac comes,
With her white hands across her eyelids, thinking
Of the rain out there in the garden,
While the king stops on the topmost step
To taste his wine wherewith wild rain has mixed.
