You people can't make observations like "everyone who says this book is boring is stupid!" That's ignorant.
...Because it IS. Boring.
And I'm not stupid or closeminded, it's just boring. The description is tiring, and the content is so trivial it hardly makes for an intelligent satire. The thing Austen is making fun of is society at large, and the way she chooses to do it is laughable: a romance with a couple snobby characters? The parallels are obvious, the metaphor is trite and the foreshadowing is not exactly edge-of-seat material. It drags on and on with little interest. The fact that she writes well doesn't make up for her sucky subject. Darcy was poorly developed and Elizabeth was self-contradictory. The characters weren't annoying, simply forgetable. And the INCREDIBLE plot twist? I fell asleep...
These are the reasons Pride and Prejudice is "boring". I prefer the term "overrated" but whatever...and by the way, just because it's OLD and verbose doesn't make it any good.
