An interview with Patrick Bateman:

*Why are we doing this interview thing?*
Because I'm an important person, with important views and opinions as well as a refined, discriminating taste that you all could learn from ;)

*So, how old are you?*
Turned 26 on February 19th. (No one wished me a Happy Birthday on LitNet :( )

*If you had a personal theme song what would it be?*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cgoqrgc_0cM&ob=av2n

*Are you male or female? *
*looks down trousers* Definitely male

*If you owned the site, what would you change?
*
I would make it so that new members need 25 posts before they can create a new thread themselves. (Sick of HS and University students being too indolent to attempt their own homework)

*What was the inspiration for your LitNet username? And if you could change it today, what would you pick?*
So that I remember my usernames I usually pick the same one 'dannycrisp' as it is a fusion of my shortened first name and the surname of my favourite baseball player as a kid. I chose Patrick Bateman because American Psycho is among my favourite books and since this is a literature forum I thought a fictional character might be interesting and even moreso one that is an axe-wielding psychopathic necrophiliac

*Which countries have you visited?*
My parents lived in Oman (in the Middle East) when I was between the ages of 11 and 13 so I would travel there 3 times a year. I have also been to Amsterdam, Paris, Greece, Spain, USA, Canada

*Which languages do you speak?*
English, French, Spanish, adequate Arabic and I'm teaching myself German.

*If you could live somewhere different, where would it be and why?*
After visiting Paris recently I just got a fantastic vibe from the city. The bohemian aura and style and elegance. I felt that I was in the centre of a world affluent in philosophical, literary and cultural elan. So if I could live anywhere in Europe it would be there, Prague or St Petersburg.

Have you heard the news today, oh boy?
Am I in it?? Then I'm not interested.

*Do you have any pets?*
We had a dog...he died 2 years ago. Thanks for opening up old wounds :(

*What makes you happy?*
My girlfriend :ack2: books, my degree, books, Mozart, music, Voltaire, books, sunny skies, bar crawls with friends on a summer's day, new people and new cultures, Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight, Fred Astaire musicals, my girlfriend's smile and laugh, the expression on a person's face when they open a present from you that you know they will really love.

*Do you take yourself too seriously, or not seriously enough?*
It depends on the situation. I'm 26 and a mature student and most of the time I act like I'm the youngest. I take myself seriously when it comes to a debate or when I am discussing my opinions and critiques on a topic. When it comes to my character and how I behave I'm laid back and let whatever flows, flow freely.

*Do you feel comfortable in your walk with God/atheism? *
I seem to have experienced an epiphany recently. I'd always considered myself atheist (because it's the cool, wise and sensible thing to do these days apparently) but now I would consider myself more of a Deist. I definitely believe in a God. As for whether the institutional Church with all its ministers and episcopal authority? I think it superfluous and corrupt.

*Which actor should play you in a movie based on your life?*
I'd love to say Kevin Spacey sinc ehe is a favourite of mine but more apt would probably be Sean William Scott
http://www.celebs.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/American-Pie-Stifler.jpg
ASlthough my nickname among my friends is Batman so maybe Christian Bale if he wasn't so wooden and y'know a c***

Who is your favourite Beatle?
Paul McCartney (mainly for Helter Skelter)

*How do you like your coffee? *
Coffee?? eurgh :ack2:

*Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?*
Chimpanzee easily, or maybe a penguin...everyone loves penguins.

*How is your reading year going?*
Fully immersed in my degree at the moment so it's all Rousseau, Voltaire, Montesquieu or works on the Renaissance, Reformation and Witch-hunts. Summer is going to see me hit Camus, Nabokov and Borges hard.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A Paediatrician, but I was too lazy with my studies and dropped out to join the army

*What's the biggest fish you've ever caught?*
I landed a pretty big battered cod at the best chip shop in Bristol recently

*What makes you feel great about yourself?*
That I make my girlfriend laugh all the time.

*How did you meet your significant other?*
At University

*What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)*
Brilliant rock climber (I did it blind-folded once :D )

*What is the one thing you must do before you die?*
Walk across the beach in Rio de Janeiro

*If you had to teach something, what would you teach?*
History

*What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?*
I would regret not finishing my Postgraduate degree

*If you were to be stuck at a particular time in your life, which one would you choose and why?*
This present year

*What book would you say sums you up?*
Hmmm I have to resist just choosing another favourite book of mine. I guess it would be Bright Lights, Big City

*What method do you cherish above all others, as means to improving your life?*
Break a routine. When I find myself doing the same thing over and over in a regimented way then I try to mix it up and do different things. (Hard when you have a level of OCD that is slightly elevated above the average.)

*What one thing would you NEED to have on a deserted island if you didn't have to worry over food and water? *
My music

*If you were a king/queen for a day, what would you do?*
Monarchs have nominal power so I could do absolutley nothing but assuming I were omnipotent I would give bankers a damn good flogging.

*What song is in your head at the moment?*
It's nearly always this during every waking hour
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozltNOVtnsg
