View Full Version : Christiana, Copenhagen-has anyone been there?

I just watched a PBS program on Copenhagen, beautiful place! They featured this kind-of hippie utopia town, called Christiana, I think that's how you spell it. Has anyone ever been there? It looks like a really neat place, and has been in existence for about 40 years. While I'm not an old hippie, this place does seem like a utopia in a way. There is a lot of pot smoking, but no harder drugs or crime. It seems very cohesive and cooperative among the residents, who love it there.

Haven't been to that town, but Copenhagen is a beautiful city.

I've been there. It's worth seeing, though I found it less interesting than other bits of Copenhagen. Though I suppose the extent to which one might enjoy it is dependant on the extent to which one accepts the culture of the place. It's not really my cup of tea (though I have nothing against hippies) - for me the parliamentary district was more fascinating.

It's not really my cup of tea either, but the little place looked so quaint and peaceful. A hippie community that has lasted that long must be doing something right. I'd love to go to all these cities, they look beautiful, and so very old- that's what I love about them. The closest thing to an old European city here is Quebec City, which I loved to visit.

I haven't been to Christiania but I have been in Copenhagen a few times and it's a nice place but I can't say I want to go back. Most people on the ice love it and many visit every year but I'm not a fan. There are many places in Denmark I'd rather see, I have seen a bit of the country and the capital is my least favorite place.
