Hello everyone,

Lately I've become obsessed with 19 century novels!! And going through everything from Austen to Gaskell.
Now I can't decide wich one is my fav heroine !! Help me choose please.
But first : wich couple do you prefer, between Jane and Rochester and Elizabeth and Darcy ?

As a character I prefer Rochester to Darcy, however I prefer P&P to "Jane Eyre." The latter takes itself too serious, while the former is taken too serious by misguided readers.

Jane and Rochester. What a great chemistry. They scorch up the pages!

But I love Lizzy and Darcy too.

I am definitely a Lizzy and Darcy fan, But this would have to be my favorite book of all time.

I wish I could answer!! I just finished Jane Eyre, which I loved. I plan on reading Pride And Prejudice this summer.

Hester Prynne. :p

Honestly, I can't say who I prefer. I like both but I feel they are pretty different and I appreciate them in their differences. As a book, I like Jane Eyre better because I have a weird appreciation for dark and depressing 19th century lit.

I'm afraid I can't help you. Both Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice are among my favourite books. The interactions between Elizabeth and Darcy are more spirited than those between Jane and Mr Rochester, but they do come from different walks of life. Jane was an orphan, Lizzy, in comparison is from a comfortable background even if she doesn't have especially hopeful prospects at the start. And then, of course, just to confuse things for me, there's North and South (whose protagonists I can't remember the names of - shame on me).

I enjoyed reading Jane Eyre, I thight it was delightful and interesting. I also remember seeing a production of it a long time ago. I felt bad for her from she was a child living with such an abusive family. Actually, I didn't blame her for leaving. Who could?:thumbs_up
