The doorknob creaked as it turned, opened into blackness,
No truer fear was ever instilled in you
As your sweaty palm felt a panic to get out
Out through that door
But there was no way out.
Under the staircase you know what you heard
Fingernails scraping, as they wanted to get at you.
The mantle on the wall spelled doom as the night had taken hold
And your eyes were wider than black pools
On what lie on the other side.
The door was creeping open into the spooky shadows,
The only light on: five toes underneath the gown you wore.
Gasping for breath,
You kept running on your treadmill
Frightened from fear
That lay all around you.
The door now wait open into the pitch of dark coals
With feasting eyes on the wall from some distance,
The moon glow was no help to you
No doors to lead you
Out the other side.
Just louder voices from the cellar
In unison coming
To get you.
The stroke of the clock grew louder
And your heart gave way
As you fainted on the floor in the black unknown
Never to be heard from again.
No truer fear was ever instilled in you
As your sweaty palm felt a panic to get out
Out through that door
But there was no way out.
Under the staircase you know what you heard
Fingernails scraping, as they wanted to get at you.
The mantle on the wall spelled doom as the night had taken hold
