Having read the book at first I found the language and events to be of an old nature but now looking more closely I am able to distinguish universal themes of love vs materialism and the consequences of both pride and prejudice. The themes impact on me has been amazing and was reinforced by the realistic way the novel was put across. I found Elizabeth's character to be realisic and relatable and she made a fantasic character to focus the novel around. Austens views, for example, may have been just as accurately portrayed through Janes character however I think that the perfection of her character made her difficult to relate to and would have made the novel seem extremely irrelevant to a modern day reader. All in all 10 points to Jane Austen for her abiltiy to present a timeless issue within such a classic of a novel. Her insight in writing has made the novel timeless.
