They sat slumped on the street before the public house. Their blackened eyes were wet making them look as if they had mascara on the orbs. Something had totally blinded them, of that there was no doubt. But what?

We listened to their accounts of what had happened in Sodom; and some wagged their heads in disbelief as others knitted their brows in consternation.

How could such stories possibly be true?

And yet, there were their tearful black blinded eyes and the way they told their tales in total earnestness.

"I tried to tell the buggers to leave the two alone," one spoke in a crackling voice, "but they heeded me not." Can you not see, I said, they are not of this earth. They are messengers of the volcanic fire and brimstone god. Let them be, or we will suffer for it, for that god is crazy and unpredictible, and once it is moved to anger its power is unquenchable and knows no bounds. "They wouldn't listen. They were consumed by their lusts. They tried to take the two, and that's when it all began. The two swept their arms at the crowd and streams of white light seemed to flare going straight for the eyes of everyone. We were all blinded by those beams, our eyes were burnt out. And the pain will not go away. It sears inside the brain. It feels as if a hot poker is stabbing my eyes. I wandered blindly and aimlessly till I crashed into this town, but now that I am here, what am I to do? Where am I to go? There is nothing left for me but torment."

Everyone eventually turned and walked away from the blinded ones. Their cries of pain and woe and their blackened eyes were just too depressing to hear and observe. Besides there was something happening in the sky that was much more interesting. Streaks of red had suddenly appeared and were growing bigger in the blue sky.

And the streaks were coming from the direction of Sodom.
