I am trying my hands at writing short stories and the following is the one that I posted at my blog: The Sensibilities of a logophile: it is called Numbers
The young man purchased a book, on the significance of numbers, from a street hawker and started to browse through the pages. The page, he concentrated on, gave him information about his lucky and unlucky numbers. In micro seconds; his mind retrieved all the negative events that had happened to him, on the dates mentioned in the book.
From that day; he started to plan his activities on days that were auspicious for success, and avoided those that were detrimental.
One day, he had to meet a new client for a future business venture. The client had told him to come at 4 in the afternoon but that time was not in harmony with the young man's lucky number. Having no option but to comply, the young man went to see him. He reached the client's workplace 30 minutes earlier. His plan was to meet the client at the auspicious time and close the meeting before 4 O' clock.
To his horror, the young man discovered after entering his client's office; that the battery of his watch went flat when he had left his home and actually it was 4 O' clock in the afternoon.
The client welcomed the superstitious young man warmly in his chamber; but before they could initiate a conversation, the telephone bell rang and the voice at the other end broke the news to the client, that he had become the father of a new born baby.
In a state of euphoria, the client announced "Young man, you have come to me at the most auspicious time of my life! the contract is yours! come tomorrow to complete the documentation!"
