I gets home after a day best forgot
And spies the sight
I'd hoped not to again
At first it is one trail
And then it is two
Centres around a teeming
Black pile of

Ants

I thought you was gone
Maybe you was
But now you is back
So lets see what you has got
Exactly this time
I gingerly brushes
And flicks
To clear the area
And rolls
The item away a bit
But - what -
Is it?
Insect?
Soft like something
Spongey
Outside with this!
I starts to empty me bag
And notices a deviation
From the main tracks

The Ants

Has found something else
Which goes to explain
What the unidentified
Thing was I has just ejected
From me home

Chocolate cake!

The lid it is loose
And I flips mine
Not twice in a week!

Oh well

No cake for me...

It's hard to put my finger on what makes this poem so pleasant, and likeable to read. Perhaps it is the child-like language interspersed with descriptive words in a witty way. For some reason, it makes me think of Homer Simpson. :P

No, no power over ants! MM - once they know you... though you can certainly learn THEM and educate them! Make it a sub-branch of myrmecology!

It would have been of some comfort for you to know they fall sleep when it's cold, but you seem to be living in a country of ongoing summer...

Put some talcum powder on their trail before you flip your lid a third time MM! I like this one too.
