All people around me seem to faithfully dance
To definite music which I cannot hear,
I do not regret and I do not fear
Even as over the past I glance;
For what might spring may yet be late
For to elapsed days there can no revision
And from elapsed days there may be fate
That will let me carve what I lust in vision.
The music may whelm my indefinite cries
And so the pleasures I long for may not arise.
Briefly over new days and the dancers I glance
And wonder which is the dancer and which is the dance
If I cannot discern then I cannot light
The pleasures which to arid hopes give new flight.
