One of my college roommates in the early 90s showed me a poem called something like "This is It"
It was a poem from the poet to a friend on their birthday, and I only remember a couple lines:
"this is it, the bird sh*t on your shoulder"
"the women who leave us before we turn to them in anger"
"the sweet smell of something better and worse"
"if we say it again, we might yet believe it - this is it, John. This is it."
If this rings a bell for anyone, I'd be very appreciative if you could let me know who the poet is. I've looked all over with no luck.
