I like it for many reasons, esp for what it says about the way we interpret coincidences or signs (mostly based on cliches from stories, movies, music etc :D) and end up misreading them.

Zooey Deschanel (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0221046/) plays Summer. I'm more of a Levitt fan though.:)

I found this movie so overly pretentious it hurt. Not the "yeah I recognize this is pretentious but I enjoy it" (like Garden State) or the "the fact that it is pretentious is the point, and it's a satire on pretentious which makes it pretentious" (like Squid and the Whale) - but this move was just made to capitalize on the fact that "hipsters" have become popular.

I love this movie. The epic over-the-top post-sex morning dance sequence through the streets is classic. It was a little pretentious as Charles says, but not so pretentious that anyone couldn't enjoy it. Its fundamentally a story about relationships, the music and attire are background, they're secondary.

My internet has crashed three times while I attempted to critique this movie here. Long story short: not a good movie. Relies heavily on soundtrack. Content is lacking. J.G.L. is great. Zooey Deschanel blew it on this one. They didn't give her much to work with. Concept film that falls flat.

Content was certainly lacking. It seemed as if the movie had a bag of tricks that it had to keep drawing from in order to keep the audience until the end. "Look, watered-down philosophic concept about modern life...oh, we're losing them....ummm....musical-style dance scene!....yeah, that'll do it. Now where were we....ummm....well the women are just watching J.G.L so let's have some close-ups of him, and the guys just want get laid so let's just end this thing." (that was my inner monologue while watching it)

I'd still enjoy watching this movie. I don't know if it's just Levitt or maybe I don't mind watching content-lacking-bag-of-tricks kind of movies, not that I knew it was a content-lacking-bag-of-tricks movie :)

Its just a fun movie, it does not pretend to reveal any profound truths or provide much food for thought. It deviates from the standard script we all know so well. There are countless jaded Summers out there, much to my and many other males' chagrin, but rarely do they make it to the big screen.

I'm baffled that anyone could interpret it as a "deep" film. For me it was just fun. Its an anti-Hollywood Hollywood film. I've had my heart broken by girls exactly like Summer but I have never seen them on the big screen. Usually its boy meets girl and they fall in love, then boy messes up, drives girl away, and finally boy gets girl back and they live happily ever after. Not here, not in this film.

On the visuals alone the movie is worth watching.

I agree that it was light fun. Like a standard romantic comedy, but without the romance. I liked the novelty of that idea, and the visuals. It still felt like just part of a movie to me, or maybe even a short, that they stuffed a bunch of filler into while ignoring character development for anyone but J.G.L. If it had starred Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, I think it would have been panned. All of this being said, I watch about a trillion movies a year. For occasional film goers taking in modern cinema, this had to have seemed epically good when compared to something like "When in Rome" or "The Bounty Hunter." Although I do have a movie addict friend who also enjoyed this. Maybe it's more relatable to people who have had similar experiences. The whole job at the greeting card company was throw away content.

I enjoyed it; a refreshing change from the usual hackneyed romcom, with a plot that was somewhat thoughtful and at least a nod in the direction of character development.
