Your implicit remark, that just because a person does not enjoy this book due to its length and subject matter, therefore constituting them as 'dumb' suggests that you are a pretentious snob. Surely, a literate mind such as yours having read and 'truly appreciated this work', would realise that that not all people prefer to read this book (which I've enjoyed by the way) due to different tastes and preferences in subjet matters. However, it does not mean that their reading level has not matured.

As always Austen is superb. This remains one of my favorite novels by her. Her delicate witty touch in bringing these characters and their relationships alive is always remarkable. Those that complain about its length and subject matter obviously haven't matured to the reading level it takes to truly appreciate this work. I don't think its unusual for marriages to be of so much importance in daily conversation at the time in which Austen wrote..or for that matter at any time. Then more than today..a great deal of fortune, future happiness were involved in marriage. Today it would equate to discussing college education and which University you are going to..but with a difference..love is also part of the equation (hopefully). I find this novel as diverting as always and its nice to see it can be found easily online as well!
