For all of those who are lucky enough to have finished your BA in English Lit, what was your thesis on? and Why did you choose it? and if you could do it all again would you change your mind and write something completely different?

Oh I wrote some nonsense about art and life in Dorian Gray from an aesthetic perspective. Why? Because doing something on Wilde was going be a lot easier for me to do than anything else. I did consider doing something on Milton but I thought why give myself a harder time. At that stage I just wanted it done and out of the way. So no, it was the best choice for me.

The concept of Time in the novels of Virginia Woolf - ever the procrastinator, I finished it with about half an hour to spare and, no, I can't remember a lot about the contents!

I wrote on the use of animal symbols in conceptualising the soul and the otherworld in Old Norse literature. It was really fun!

I forget the actual title of my thesis (it was a long time ago, and I don't have it anymore) but it was something about the exploration of sex, personal evolution and creativity in Henry Miller's work.

My Thesis was on symbolism and allusions in Flannery O'Conner's short stories.

I can't remember the specific focus, but my English Department specifically assigned the text for us to write on.

The second part of our thesis was an off the cuff analysis of a poem that they chose from a hat. I had the poem "The Colossus" by Sylvia Plath.

Comparison between Achebe's Things Fall Apart and Yeat's "The Second Coming." It was a complete piece of ****.

I wrote my thesis on the historical consciousness in the novels of Nadine Gordimer. Though the thesis was for my Masters in Philosophy:smile5:

'The Concept of Play in Samuel Beckett's Trilogy'

It was completed on the last day and handed in at the very last minute just because somebody told me to forget about it as I had wasted too much time. Bulk of the work was carried out in last 24 hours although six months were spent on sheer reading secondary and primary sources. I never saw my adviser either! Just made it as difficult for myself as I could.
