I much enjoyed reading The Warriors at Helgeland, written by the 29-year-old Ibsen almost a decade before his first successful play Brand, a masterpiece indeed.
The ending of The Warriors at Helgeland baffled me for 24 hours but the mythic heroism of Hjørdis, a feminist super hero before her time, dawned on me eventually. Now, of course, the Norse heroes in the clouds are just wonderful stories, and church states rule in those northern lands.
