I'm taking French 102, and I was wondering if anyone knows of an app or program that would help me type French. The problem is when I type French out on my computer, I don't know how to type put accent marks and different symbols, so I thought maybe there was a program or app that autocorrects French words and adds in the accent marks and what-not. Or, if there's a website or anything that can help me with this, that'd be great.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can select different keyboard layouts in your control panel, I think windows should come with international, French, and French Canadian keyboard layouts. Basically you press the corresponding accent key then the vowel to get the vowel with an accent. Which isn't that complicated when you get a hang of it.

The international keyboard setting will operate off of the symbols on the standard keyboard, meaning like if you want circonflexe you type ^ like usually then the vowel. This is probably an easier transition, but slower than when you're used to the French or FC layouts.

(edit: you should also be able to download french auto-correct for office or open office)

On Word, you can change the language and you can also change the configuration of the keys in azerty (and vice versa) by pressing simultaneously Alt + Verr. Maj + Shift. I don’t know if it helps.

If you don't have access to Microsoft Office, the free office suite LibreOffice (a spinoff of OpenOffice) allows you to select from numerous languages.
