Hey everyone. I'm going insane trying to find this short story I read when I was young, I can remember a lot about it but can't seem to get the name right. I'm hoping if I give a plot description someone on here might be able to help me out? I know this is my first post and it's a bit ****ty of me to be doing this but this place seemed the best to help me find out what it is!
So, it goes like this.
It's a stormy night when the protagonist (For the purposes of this, I'll call him John, I can't remember his name or if he even had a name) of the story seeks shelter and comes across a mansion/large country house with the lights on inside. He rushes to it and knocks on the door where a guy inside asks who it is, John replies with his name and all he seeks is shelter. At first he's denied but he tries again and the man inside (Again for the purposes of this story, we'll call him George) makes him read from the bible. John does so and is let it.
Inside he finds two men (maybe three, but defiantly at least two of them ) both of them very tense. John questions them about what's going on and why he had to read from the bible. After some persuasion George opens up that they were recently digging in an area (can't remember if nearby or not) for something and accidentally unleashed a satanic spirit which now wants to kill them. But can't get inside the house, unless invited in.
So, George and the other hear upstairs and John is left downstairs by the fire to sleep. After being asleep for a while he's woken up by a tapping on the window, he gets up and sees George outside shouting at him to let him in before he's killed. John runs to the door and opens it telling him to get in. The look of dread disappears from George's face and turns into a smile as John realises he's been tricked, the spirit blasts past him up the stairs as you hear them two screaming. George (real one) runs down the stairs before being hurled up and slammed against them breaking his back.

It ends with John being a small house himself, trapped, the spirit now after him and something about him feeling it outside. Prisoner in his own home.
Now I know, what I've written is missing and vague on details, but I read this over ten years ago and it's the best I can do unfortunately. I was thinking the title of it was something like "The Devil's Mound" or "Satan's Mound" but I can't find anything. It was part of a collection of random stories, none of which I can remember.
If anyone can help me find this short, I will be super grateful. Thanks.
