I'm surprised to find I've read some on the list. I'd like to read the latest - The Sense of an Ending.

What's it matter? It's not like anyone even participates in the dissuasions anymore...

I'll join in to discuss the book ultimately selected.
For my nomination, let's go with The Old Devils by Kingsley Amis. Could be some parallels to the Cold Ale Blokes.

I think I won't mind reading any of these books - apart from Midnight's Children. Wasn't impressed with it enough to read it again.

I voted for the one I nominated, but I would also be interested in reading "Remains of the Day."

They all look pretty good, though I've voted for my own choice.

I'm going to hold out and see what it comes down to. They all seem like good choices.

. . . then vote for it.

Midnight's Children meets my page count for the mammoth challenge, so I'd be happy to read that one. The Remains of the Day is an excellent book, I can recommend that one.

I voted for Remains of the Day as I nominated it, and also it's the only one which I already have a copy.

Is it going to be Remains of the Day?

Mutatis-Mutandis

Remains of the Day sounds kind of boring, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to complicate things.

Shame on you :D

Though I have to say Midnight's Children is a book I have been wanting to read. I myself had been on the fence in regaurds to Remains of the Day

Midnight's Children is a good read. I've read half of it, and so this will give me a good excuse to finish it.

Scheherazade

Midnight's Children is the only book in that list that I will not read. Already read it and I sincerely do not think it is worth a second read... Rushdie is hardly one of my favourite authors.

Well, I hope that doesn't sop you from participating in the discussion. It definitely sounds like you have some interesting things to say. :D

I second Mutatis. It's good to get the contrary view.

Well...do I pull the trigger and get "Midnight's Children" or do I wait for a miraculous, last minute dog pile on "The Old Devils"?

Well, seeing as the voting should be locked as it's past the end date, I'd play it safe and get a copy of MC.

Dark Muse

Yes, it says the poll is closed. I myself have already started reading MC

I need to finish Jane Eyre, which will take about a week, then on to MC. I'm looking forward to it and.a good discussion.

I'll need to refresh my mind as to the first third. I like his narrative style. It makes you work.

Just purchased and now realize this will be a challenge to finish this month at 500+ pages.
So be it, I'm underway.

Count me in :D I'm having a week of reading shorter books (I just finished Genji - it's a monster!) but will start Midnight's Children next week.
