I would love to know everyone else's opinions - do you think Holden Caulfield is right to believe all adults are phonies, and children must be hidden from the profanity of this world and held back from their inevitable transition into adulthood?

Catcher in the Rye was not a book about ultimate right or wrong. And now you have all kinds of Caulfield quotes floating around out of the context of the idiotic ones floating around in 1951. It was a great book because it revealed quite a lot of what was going on in the minds of children in contrast with the minds of adults of that generation. So, no matter what the mongers do, quoting Caulfield out of the context of the times, they only show how truly stupid they are.
