It's Christmas at the old folks home
where Maria sits like a tangled ball
mumbling Italian through her old
drooping mouth and worn out gums.
Dove è l'uomo che amo?
The tinsel and mistletoe deck
the ceiling where the patients
spend their time staring,
like lifeless dreamers into space.
Mr Bennett is strapped to his chair
his head tilted to one side as if
in his mind he can see a way past
the present, his constant drooling
so he tells the nurse when she
cleans him up, urr ga dud da
She's heard it all before and yawns.
That's right Mr Bennett.
Maria weeps, her bony knee raised
her arms wrapped tightly through it.
Vorrei che fosse qui con me ora
Mr Bennett heaves forward and the chair
slowly but surely moves.
He knows one thing and that is,
You can't keep a good man down.
Who can compare the screaming joy
of children to the tortuous pain of
minds deteriorating like crumbling
fruit cake on Christmas day?
Mr Bennett makes progress.
A decrepit old man on an unknown mission.
Lurching forward, pushing back with his feet.
Herrrga baa duh!
He reaches Maria rocking under the mistletoe.
She smiles at her dead husband and takes his hand,
Ho fatto il tuo piatto preferito
He drools from too many strokes and pants out,
Mama.

It's a testosteromic problem.

Sounds realistic from my experience with nursing homes.

thanks YesNo. Apart from some of the depressing moments, I observed the more subtle and humorous ones too.
