Would you "obtain" or "attain" forgiveness? I'm thinking "obtain". Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for your help.

Yes it is obtain

'obtain' fits best - meaning to get possession of forgiveness, presumably from someone who forgives you...

'attain' means to reach a certain state - so you could also conceivably reach a state of forgiveness if there is such a thing.

I don't think it matters. You should use whichever one seems the least appropriate. Appropriate is bad. Inappropriate is good.

Unless of course you're a student and you trying to get a good grade.

Good luck!

I would have to agree with hillwalker for once and say it is obtain, if you want the Queen's English. But why not write your own English?

But if you use obtain you probably qualify to be in the Norton anthology - that's all there is to it! Well, maybe just a little more!
