Boy have I wriggled helplessly
along those knotty twigs
all through the day and all through the night.
It sure was a b itch holding on
especially when they swayed,
the leaves rustling my name
as if nature itself knew trouble
was my time.
God when it rained,
I thought I'd never hold on
as the fat pitter patter of lowness
rained down and drenched me.
My body curled round the woody lifeline,
wanting to just let go
when a caterpillar said,
When you don't give up,
you cannot fail.
I've chewed my way through enough pain
to cocoon all my hopes and dreams.
When the sun comes out
wet, fragile wings will slowly unfurl.
They won't be perfect
and I'll still be hanging upside down
but what of it?
They'll dry soon enough
and then I'll fly.
So leave me be in my metamorphosee.
