Is it really a great work of existential literature? The narrator sounds like a nihilist and that would be great to read, I mean from a perspective like that. Does this contain a lot of Sartres main ideas/philosophy?

I have the Lloyd Alexander translation. Is it a great work of existential literature? I wouldn't put it among the masterworks, but it has its moments. The concept of 'outliving oneself' is well-developed. But the easiest introduction to Sarte is still Existentialism Is a Humanism. (Being and Nothingness is brilliant at times, but so difficult too.)
