I'll jump right in. Music is my first and greatest passion. But I adore literature too, of all sorts. And I enjoy the arts generally. I have a penchant for all things philosophical. I like poetry in small doses. I can happily listen to a three-hour oratorio, but I soon weary of longer poems. It's one of my artistic faults. (G.M. Hopkins is my favourite poet, hence the avatar.) My 'hobbies' are trail-running, 50-75 km a week, and smoking cigars.

Some of my favourite authors, in the order that they come to me, are: Kierkegaard, Pascal, Plato, Thomas Mann, Proust, Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Thomas Browne, Augustine, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Dostoevsky, Dickens, Hesse, and Étienne Gilson.
