A turgid crimson moon shines on our honey night,
supine hours oozing out on star-stained sand,
its grains still tepid under our naked feet.
The desiccated grassland susurrates in secret whispers
around a lone, archaic baobab that stretches branches
like shrivelled, pleading arms into the balmy breeze.
Into its soft-edged shadow we dream up
a lightweight rattan table covered with damask,
two folding chairs with off-white linen seats,
a picnic basket full with fragile, gilded china.
Stiff and regal, we could sit there, sipping tea,
gazing idly at baboons, hyenas and mongooses
until a short and rosy dawn yawns up
the sudden clarity of morn…

I admit that I almost never read poems in the Personal Poetry section -however, the title of this poem draw me in, in fact, I find the title the strongest point of the poem.
The poem itself is very pleasant - it elaborates very well on the subject, is interesting to read and although it didn't provide any surprises it is a good read - kudos for the work, it had been quite some time since I last enjoyed a good nature poem.

Very atmospheric, with a sudden clarity that breaks the ambience. It feels hot, African... am I right? Well done, Dieter, thank you, Bar
