Well, I just made an account. I'm the new guy, and hopefully this forum will be a place that I can stay and prosper. I am younger than most people here (I'm sure), but I will try to act older. I came here looking to better my writing skills, increase my vocabulary, etc.
I don't really have a favorite author, or a favorite book. I love words though, and that's all that really matters. This isn't my typical place to spend my time, so I may be the odd one out for awhile. I will try my best to fit in though.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and hope to be able to stay here. I'm also getting a new Kindle e-reader for Christmas, any suggestions on what books to get?

Welcome, Eminent. I, for one, always welcome younger members (though, by your writing, I never would have guessed that you were young). They always have good and different perspectives . . . not that I'm an old codger, though I feel like it sometimes. I would suggest you not try to act older. We have enough stuffy shirts on this board, some joviality and immaturity is more than welcome, in my humble opinion.
As for a book suggestion, I'll just fall back on my all time favorite, Moby Dick. Everyone literature lover should tackle the White Whale at some point. It's a tough, long, sometimes boring, but in the end extremely rewarding read. The prose contained in MD is still the most beautiful I've ever encountered, and I read it every year.

Ah Moby-Dick. I think it holds the record for longest time it took to read: and that category includes "War and Peace" and "Clarissa" (admittedly I was much younger when I read Moby-Dick). But it is an incredible book and really started my love affair with the "classics".
As for you, Eminent....welcome. I usually don't recommend books for people with nothing to go on, so....what are some interests? The good thing about the Kindle is that you can 1. Get free books and 2. sample books - useful when you're not so sure about something.

That's really a tough one to answer. I really like older writing, as the style intrigues me. I guess I am more in favor of a fantasy, like Lord of the Rings. I also enjoy tragedies, and am a big fan of William Shakespeare. I am planning on reading The Grapes of Wrath and possibly some of Steinbeck's other pieces. I will definitely grab Moby Dick since you two both say that it is a good book.
