Hi,

I wonder if anyone recognizes a fictional character called Abbess (Mother Superior) of Andouillets?

I found a satirical reference to such a character in a Swedish book from 1810, but I can't identify the original source. Does anyone have any ideas?

The Swedish writer was not fluent in French and the spelling of the place might differ slightly in the original.

Thanks.

I did some searching and apparently she is a character in the novel The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman by Laurence Sterne.

I have not read this book, but I know some Litneters are familiar with it. Perhaps they can tell you about her.

Thank you very much, togre! This was very helpful. Now that I know which book to check out, it will be no problem. Thanks!
