I dropped my shoes
Where they had last
Fallen.
By the trapdoor,
Beneath
The clock
That struck twelve .

Princes in halls
Of glamour
Never asked me
For a dance
Because I was
Clumsy…..
Dropping coffee,
Breaking the heels
Of my unfitting
Stilletos…..
By the trapdoor,
Beneath
The clock
That struck twelve .

I am no fantasy…..
With no Godmother
To form miracles
Before prom nights.
Just a simple girl
With dark eyes
And a flat nose,
No spells
To cast away glares
When the clock
Strikes twelve .

I am no genius…..
Too powerless
To sell myself
In that glittery
World where I
Want to belong.
It all dies down…..
Roads get dark
Before the clock
Strikes twelve.

But
There’s a glow
To every darkness
In dreams …..
To resurrect
Questions of odds
That I have
Not yet found .

I know …..I am
No Cinderella
With a white
Dress and tiara…..
But one
Who has
Carelessly dropped
Her shoes
Where they last
Fell.
By the trapdoor,
Beneath the clock
That just struck twelve.

Dark eyes
And
A flat nose.
Fair glimpses
Raise a sound…..
To questions of odds
That I have
Not yet found.
