Although 1984 made a very good point about the government, and George Orwell got a lot right, I would not recommend this book to anyone. In my opinion you get the concept of the book by the time your halfway through and reading the rest is basically pointless because you don't learn anything new. I found most of the book to be quite boring and if it was up to me I would have stopped reading it after the first page. Also, I found that a majority of the time I would have finished reading a page and not even understand what I just read. I think that if I were to have read this book in college I would have enjoyed it more than reading it in high school.

I agree with your opinion about reading it in college over reading it in high school, but you must realize that Orwell was a very sophisticated writer, and had very deep thoughts and ideas. I don't agree with your idea about the book being boring. I can say that the first 100 pages or so were a bit lifeless, but after that the book morphed into a great read, explaining so much about government and how easily influenced the citizens of a society can be. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a long, interesting, and most importantly, challenging read. This book should be read in honors high school classes, and most definitely in college english classes.

I think 1984 should be read in high school and college. It has different mening to different age groups. As a high schooler certin parts stick out of the book more than others, and when you read it in college you will understand more. I think 1984 is a good book to be reminded of again. I do agree that Some of it was hard to understand but if it was read in college you would probably understand a little more.

I've just started the book and i thinks its good for high schools. At some time it can be a little confusing, but it is also a good learning experience. Reading this book can make you think more so you can figure out what your confused on, which i believe is a good thing to know for the real world.

IMO it's most suited for mature audiences. If you're in a higher english class in high school, then it's perfect simply due to the fact that most would rather it be assigned in college, so its advances. I can understand the struggle for those assigned to normal classes, though. All in all as was stated before you need to be equipped with a more open mindset to be able to handle the complicated ideas represented in the book. Someone that approaches it with the attitude that "idc, i just need to scrape by" obviously will not treat it with the care that an opposite party would... it's more of a choice.

But you do you, and you're entitled to your opinions and what not. If you want a challenge - not a fun time - this book is best suited for that.
