I always wanted to ask foreign people if i look characteristically Greek...

Here you can ask the analogous question yourself.

Let me begin by asking you about my Greek-ness in regards to appearance:

Having lived in London for three years i easily looked a lot different from english people, but somewhat close to italians. Greeks have many different kinds of looks anyway, due to inbreeding in the peninsula...

I agree, there are a lot of differences in people in Greece. I lived in Europe for some years, I know Greece and Italy both great countries.

But there is s very subtle difference, I don't know how to explain it very well, is like in Italy all people are rushed you know everything must be Presto!!!... and in Greece the people are more calm and relaxed even if there is a need to run you don't feel so stressed. Well that's how I felt.

By example your picture... I know you are Greek because you look so natural and relaxed, if you were Italian you would be using your best pose in your better angle ;)

And yes when you live in another country for sometime you kind of know you look different, because it's not only physical appearance but also your social education changes from country to country, example: I'm mexican/spaniard, when I lived in Spain everyone knew i wasn't spaniard cause I tend to say please when asking a waiter in a restaurant, spaniards don't do that.

Little things like that also signals that you are different from the country you are living on.

Heavens no!!! I don't really look like anything I don't think, but then again I'm a mutt, and very happy about this. While I'm born in the U.S. I boast a whole host of different bloodlines and the result is that I'm not really a big resemblance of any. I'm good with that thought. I'll take my nice, short, not quite blond self and just wonder where the features all come from.

Various nations have stereotypical citizens who are sometimes considered representative of the country. Here are three types who represent England but thank God I don't resemble any of them.

Elovena-girl (Elovena is a Finnish brand, you can see Elovena-girl on a box of anything made of oat) is often considered to look about as Finnish as a girl can look.

Then there is of course Maiden Finland, the personification of our country. These two are portraits of her:

The first one is a famous portrait of Maiden Finland who is attacked by the two-headed eagle of Russia. It symbolised the fight for continuing autonomy of Finland during the years of Russification. The second one pictures Maiden Finland with the Finnish flag in a Finnish landscape.

As far as looks go, I do have the two basic features of a Finn: blonde(ish) hair and blue eyes. I am shorter than an average Finnish woman, though.

A difficult one to call as it takes many centuries for national characteristics to take hold, but here's one view of what many Americans are supposed to be like.

I was conceived under exclusive specifications, and therefore do not resemble anyone anywhere.

I always took you for a Terry Thomas Emil.

We Brits are a mongrel race. Firstly through various invasions, and lately immigration. I've been told I look Welsh,(dark hair, blue eyes) but then legend has it that the Welsh are sprung from the scattered remnants of Troy, and anyway my Great Grandfather was Swiss.

here on the ice I guess the main thing you notice people have in common is pale skin, it may have changed after people got addicted to those sun lamps. I have very pale skin, I guess I have a somewhat Scandinavian look, pale skin, blonde hair, average height but I have green eyes and the most common eye color here on the eyes is a sort of mousy grey or blue.

it is said the most beautiful women are from the ice but I don't fit into that category and we here usually explain this with the Vikings who went to Ireland and England and kidnapped many pretty ladies and brought them to the ice, so that means we are the ancestors of slaves and kidnappers and robbers, don't think that matters though...

Haha, aww. What does the rest of the world think that Canadians look like (if they ever think about Canada at all, which if they didn't I wouldn't be surprised)?

Probably all those stereotypes from 80s movies like Strange Brew and Canadian Bacon.

(At least you don't have to deal with French stereotypes that all seem to be based on 1940s Paris)

Here's T.T. again in a somewhat earlier version.

I do admit to wearing waistcoats and even sporting a cigarette holder under the influence of reading too much P.G.Wodehouse when younger but I don't think Terry would have appreciated the leather jacket and corduroys that have long since replaced them. Autre temps autres moeurs.

Incidentally, did you know that T.T. was a cousin of Norman Scott, the male model in the Jeremy Thorpe conspiracy to commit murder case?

Particularly among the southern states. I like the added touch with the chemtrails overhead.

T.T. comes much closer to how I envision Emil versus the bloke he posted earlier with the beer shelf gut.

Chemtrails? Shades of Musicology there Gilliatt.

I couldn't find a picture with waistcoat a la T.T. although there is one somewhere in the place. This was taken some time after. You might note that the cigarette no longer has a holder and it was at a time when a beer belly was not looked on as favourably as it is among Englishmen today.

I guess I'm supposed to look like this:

http://de-motivational-posters.com/images/canadian-girls-don-39-t-mess-with-them-eh.jpg

...You know, throw some more clothes on her for the -40 temp, slap some eyeliner on her and dye her hair dark brown, and I could likely pass.
