If you want to make a difference, rob a bank.
For the economic crisis you can thank
politicians and the wankers
who are oilmen and bankers;
if you want to make a difference, buy a tank.

If you want to make a difference, don’t drop out.
Don’t try to demonstrate or scream and shout;
you’ll just make the place untidy,
annoy shoppers late on Friday;
if you want to make a difference, don’t camp out.

If you want to make a difference, buy a gun.
Shoot the rich folk in their homes and have some fun
and when industry collapses
you can rattle your synapses,
form a plan and try to do what must be done.

even though I'm not entirely sure that robbing a bank, buying a gun or a tank would really make a difference (this is my brain arguing), I had such a good laugh at your witty lines (this is my heart arguing)! So politically incorrect, so relieving! "Buy a gun, shoot the rich folk and have some fun" is what many people are thinking at the moment (even yours truthfully, more peaceloving than Ghandi!), and to read such thoughts in such a nice wrapping - thanks a lot!

Nice little rant, Hawk and very topical this side of the puddle. I'm not sure whether Jeremy Clarkson would be cheering you on or cowering in the shadows - depends on which side of your fence he's actually sitting.

Viva Chipolata or whatever the saying was.

Responding partly to Occupy Wall Street, yes? I too think it's way too tame and untidy. What they should do is go straight to these fat pigs' homes, without guns though. Why waste even one bullet on them? Trash their houses, then they will have to pay the "little" people (as Leona Hemsleye called the rest of us) to repair their palaces.

I like your social conscience of a poem, not for the weak of heart though, LOL.

Hi Dieter, thanks for enjoying the fun :D Seriously though, given the scale of the world economic meltdown, camping out in the rain in the middle of winter and waving a few placards isn't really going to do a lot of good! Even my insigificant home town has a little tent village on a tiny slice of what used to be grass. There the unwashed and bearded proudly proclaim "This is only the beginning" to the general indifference of everyone. Even the Council and the Police are ignoring them. You can spot the leader of the proto revolutionaries though, he's got a dirty little caravan covered in graphiti. I hope it snows. :devil:

Hill, Thankee sir, glad you enjoyed it. I think Clarkson would probably be quite happy to drive a bulldozer through the lot, provided he could be on telly doing it.

All hail Discordia!

Hi Haunted, I don't think destruction of property is the way to go. All the fat cats are insured, so it just puts up the premiums for the rest of us. I grant that a few tradesmen might benefit form the extra work though. :D But aren't grave-diggers just as entitled to a little boost at Christmas? - lol

Good stuff, Hawk - full of fire and passion; it's well-crafted and doesn't out-stay its welcome. It also doesn't rely on archaic language or syntax, so it feels fresh and contemporary.

The last stanza reminded me of Simon Armitage's 'Those Bastards in their Mansions'. Enjoyably rousing stuff!

Hi b/v and thanks for reading. It's always nice to remind someone of Simon Armitage, but can Mr. Armitage's poem be sung to the tune of, "If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands"? ;)

Oh and a sitrep: I walked into town today and it appears that the graphiti daubed caravan has been removed. Perhaps the leader of our local cadre of revolutionaries has left his minions to face the winter weather on their own - LOL

Some music would go nicely with this! It's a jaunty, fun read.
