I think it should be titled Women, Weddings and War.
I thought mud wresting was out of style....but then again a woman's scorn is a powerful thing.
Jack of Hearts you got your thoughts thru.

Wow, is that the kittycat seal of approval?
That's a great suggestion for the title. It's changed now. Thanks for reading.

Great, very well done. I love mythology based poetry. Poor Hera didn't get a namedrop, though.

A very amusing twist on the legend - some great images.
I'll probably allow you the rather glaring rhyme - eye-liner and shiner - given the picture in my head that followed. The fact that the rhyme is less obvious as the poem continues isn't a bad thing.

Yeah, good stuff, Jack, it's well crafted. Personally, I'm not a big fan of 'borrowing from the myth kitty' as Larkin called it, but this can be read either way, so that's nicely achieved.

It is very new...and speaks of a very old truth...and, I love the way both exist and impact.

hey Jack! I am unaware of the mythology ( its all greek to me :) ) but I loved the blend and always enjoy your writing.

This was great--contemporary, "hip" (do we still use that term?) and it's not afraid to use material that intellectuals love and treat it irreverently. The form blends with the subject matter perfectly.
What's not to like?

Hi JoH
I enjoyed both the narrative and the link to Greek Myth... Great stuff.

Excellent poem, J. I loved the ironic contrast going on in the poem. I had the feeling that you were really in control of writing this and no line ran away from you (if this makes sense).
It was consistent throughout, is what I'm getting at :).
Thanks for sharing.

Wow, thanks everyone. This reader thought for sure that this one had run its course but there's sure been a lot of recent responses on this old poem (10 days old is a lifetime or two on these swift boards!).
