I was wondering who here is familiar with the work of Emannuel Levinas, and further, if you would be willing to suggest a good starting text for someone who is looking to delve into his work a bit.
I'm particularly interested in the contributions he has made to contemporary ethics; I believe one author described Levinasian ethics as one that is tied into "constant concern for the Other."
I am relatively comfortable with Heidegger's Being and Time (at least as comfortable as one could reasonably be expected to be), and I understand that Heidegger's ontology of Dasein is in some ways the jumping off point for Levinas. Is this correct? I'm mainly interested in knowing other works with which I should be familiar before starting Levinas.
