Despite the grappling, take downs
and joint holds,
my creative bones crumble
like the chalk I rub between my palms
before the first round starts
When the bell rings
my imaginary audience bellows
and hoots, Bring him down! Bring him down!
I find solace in flowing banners
which echo my favour
and clash in a catch as catch can hold
between our pen to hand combat
Why worry who will come out on top?
My feet race back and forth
on the blank, unsigned canvas for show
While we circle like predatory mammals
I snarl and dare you to take first shot
Dive in and go for the chokehold
Besides, even if I must pound my fist
submissively with nothing left to offer
but my ligtning red trunks
my lifeless form remains a poetic sprawl
in the ring for the heartfelt fan
compared to your roaring victory
of below the belt pin downs
prompting the audience to boo
at your garish exhibition

Sounds like the what happens just prior to a thread getting closed on Lit Net. Nice job.

Writing as wrestling. That's an apt metaphor for what we (?) try to do.
Sometimes it's like wrestling an alligator.

Well said Aunty. That's exactly how I felt squeezing this one out!
