As Winston reads aloud "The Book" to Julia, is she truly interested but just falls asleep, or is she just saying she's interested but falls asleep from boredom? :hat:

She definitely falls asleep because of boredom. She doesn't care about what Winston thinks & feels. She's not "human" like Winston is.

Julia, as said in the book, is a rebel only from the waist down, which is just plain nasty in itself. Anyways, she doesn't care about the actual rebellion.
Winston wants her to become a full rebel, which is why I think he's reading her the book.

Boredom, definately. I don't believe that Winston and Julia truly care for eachother, they're just getting together because they like the idea of rebelling. She's acting like a stereotypical guy would these days, she doesn't really care about what has happened to him in the past. She only cares about what's happening to him when it involves her.

Julia falls asleep because she doesnt care about the past like all of the other characters in the book. She only cares about her own life and what is going on now.

If you notice Julia's reaction to all things that have to do with big brother, rebellion, etc. it is the same. she is bored. She doesn't wholeheartedly care about the situation. Sure she agrees with rebellion and says that she hates the party but she truely doesn't have the motivation or drive to do anything about it. Where as Winston is willing to sacrifice his life any time for the cause.

Julia definitely falls asleep from boredom. She does indeed admire rebelling from the Party, but she only takes action to do so sexually. She is not an intellectual by any means and therefore is not interested in The Book at all.

I feel like that Julia cares for Winston a little. Although the most conciteration she has for him is the waist down. Also i feel like Julia does not care as much as Winston does for the rebellion, although she does have some intrest. Julia is more interested in action then taking time to learn about something (or someone).

Julia is a product of big brother when it comes to the past. She could honestly careless about what happened in history. She focuses her attention on what is happening now. She doesn't really care to rebel in any way other than her sexual relationship with winston. Like Winston said she's only a rebel from the waist down.

Julia most likely falls asleep from boredom. She only rebels in her actions and none of the things she has done to rebel involve her brain. In her mind, she is a product of Big Brother. She believes exactly what the government tells her even if she says she is against the Party. For example, when Winston asks her about the war they are currently at, she cannot remember that they were not fighting Eurasia a few years ago. She believes that they were always fighting Eurasia.

Julia cares little about Winston and his personal life as we know. Whenever Winston brings up political thoughts or anti-party ideas, Julia shuts him out completely. She is only interested in the sexual form of rebellion, rather than a more straight forward revolt. Perhaps she is scared of it? Perhaps she is simply younger and immature?
