National Novel Writing Month; write a rough draft for a novel during the 30 days of November. They do it every year. http://www.nanowrimo.org/

I am sorry but that sounds horribly bourgeois

I've been enjoying it; I've never been able to sit down and finish a rough draft I've started, but having a deadline and other people in it with me has been a great motivator, and it's looking like I'm actually going to get there.

To each their own, of course. If nothing else, it'll prove to me that I'm capable of completing a draft, no matter how rushed and rough it is.

I've kind of always wanted to, but I never seem to get around to starting it. Maybe next year.

When I first heard about it I decided to check it out and try it. Some of the communities that form can only be described as "bourgeois" - but the act itself is a fun challenge, and I think my (inevitably failed) attempt taught me a thing or two about writing. Having the time pressure forces you to sit down and write, which is a great exercise for those who spend so much time and energy trying to come up with ideas that they can't get them on paper (or screen).
