Sometimes you may find something
That you weren't looking for
In a place you were not expecting
To even find any single thing

And sometimes it may just be better
Than what you already have
Like the purple shopping list f'rinstance
Abandoned to its used up fate

Having served its ephemeral purpose
It lay face down in the trolley
Until curiosity got the better of me
I picked it up and gave perusal

Exotic vegetables I'd never heard of!
Cuts of meat never considered!
Dried fruit varieties I knew not existed!
And esoteric herbs and spices!

At the bottom were electrical articles
For cooking, carving, cleaning
Making life tastier and altogether easier
At least for those in 'The Know'

Having now stumbled upon The Arcana -
Secret and Alternate Universe
The shock of people actually living in
This Other World transposed

All this time what had I been missing?
What second-rate sham my life?
I had to possess these items itemised
For the sake of future happiness

And hitherto too - as all contentment
Shall in consumables contained
And with their procurement a new chapter
Where Rusty Old meets Shiny New

I like it. My only complaint: The strict metrical pattern seems to make for a forcing of words of sorts in spots in here and there.

Fairer than fair. Loved it.

Thankyou My2cents :) I agree. I couldn't face doing another rhyme and getting distracted before finishing it - so the metre thing was really just a default reaction rather than going completely free verse.

Thankyou Cafolini :)

(You know there really was a purple shopping list, and it really was full of strange things - they didn't fit in properly though)
