I was wondering if anyone could tell me a little about him (style, who he's similar too, etc).
Stumbled upon a description of him and liked what I read about his stories, and considering I've never heard of him I was rather surprised to hear he'd won the Nobel Prize, so I thought I'd ask the trusty folk here a little about the man.

I own The Collected Stories (http://www.amazon.com/Collected-Stories-Isaac-Bashevis-Singer/dp/0374517886/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320874052&sr=8-1). I've read about half of them. I really enjoyed what I read.
He is a Jewish writer who writes prominently about Jewish themes and experiences. Some of his work has elements of fantasy/magic realism. While other of stories are more straight-forward realism. He delves into philosophical themes and Jewish theological issues.
One of his stories Yentl The Yeshiva Boy was even turned into a musical movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086619/).
I'm not really sure what kind of information you're looking for.

I read The Slave many years ago. I found it a disturbing story which although having an historical setting had many resonances for modern attitudes but more importantly, I found it deeply moving. The fact that I remember it nearly forty years after reading it is an indication of the power of the writing.
