Hey all,

This is my first post and I wanted to start it off by talking about the new movie "Anonymous." You can find the link for the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBmnkk0QW3Q

The movie Anonymous suggests that Shakespeare never wrote any of his plays and was a fraud. Many theories have suggested that Shakespeare did not write any of his plays, that the name Shakespeare was an alias and that several people wrote his plays. Many people do not believe that Shakespeare wrote his plays because of his educational background and the fact that we know little about the man, William Shakespeare. Popular suggestions of who actually wrote the Shakespeare plays have been Francis Bacon, Christopher Marlowe, and Sir Walter Raleigh . Do you have any more suggestions of who Shakespeare might have been? Do you want to defend Shakespeare as an author? Feel free to leave your comments and questions below.

If you have the time please check out my blog. My goal is to post a topic that will allow people to share their thoughts and engage in a friendly debate if they so desire. My blog focuses on literature, authors and literary criticism of works and authors. {edit}

I think it's immaterial whether he wrote them or not. Mark Twain investigated the subject and came to the firm conclusion that there was no Shakespeare in the town where he was supposed to have lived. But Shakespeare exists as a legend and as such, the plays are Shakespeare. I personally feel that they are not of English authorship. I place the writer or writers in Venice for the reconstruction of the English language supervised by the Catholic church. I base it on the staggering amount of Latin that was introduced and the context. Who cares, really? Most literature of those days was legendary. Joan of Arc was also a legend designed by the French to confront the Catholic church who was using the English to keep the French under the yoke.

:smilielol5: It would appear therapy is in order. :smilielol5:

Or... considering the anti-genius posts as well... perhaps we are witnessing the return of Musicology.:prrr::skep::eek::frown2:

Perhaps it doesn't matter if Shakespeare is real or not, but it is interesting to see different conspiracy theories that are our there. There is not much known about Shakespeare so many questions arise over his identity.
I am going to have to disagree about your claim of Joan of Arc being a "legend." Joan of Arc was a real person, even the English acknowledge that. However, the English and French do not agree on the role Joan of Arc played in history. Most English people thought she had a mental illness and did not actually receive messages from God, and the French consider her a martyr.

I checked out your blog and I admire the time and dedication you obviously took to make it. I am sorry more people are not posting on it. Sometimes it is hard to have people regularly view a blog especially if the content covers things they may not understand (i.e. classical musicians, opera, etc.). I liked your posts though and if you have the time check out my blog and tell me what you think.

Of course. I'd bet you have the approach.
