I am reading this book as a Freshman (grade 9), and I find this book utterly and completely BORING. I have MAYBE read 10 ch. in this book and I didn't like any of it. I am a fairly good student too but this book really has no meaning to me at all. What makes this book worse is the fact that my teacher is a big literature NUT. She says that she has met Charles Dickens before but I don't really beleive her, I think that she is litterally NUTS herself in the head, but hey, I was just letting you all know if you read this information on this website, it helps out a lot!

I am also a year 11 student who has to read this book and also write an essay on it, you claim the story is boring and I can understand that, becuase it does take a while to get into the story but to say the story lacks good Character is outrageous. The characters in this story are masterful, complex and very interesting, you obviously didnt give the book a chance if you say such things of it.

This book was sooo boring. i had 9 weeks to read it and it wasnt enough. This book makes no sense what-so-ever. I can read a 12 th grade book and this is a 9th grade reading level adn i am in the seventh grade and i couldnt read it. The story goes off subject and ramles to much. I would advise any other student or person NEVER read this book. It is the worst book that i have ever attempted to read. And thats pretty bad because i have read a lot of books. I didnt even finish it i only read 200 pages and for my book report used summaries of the book. he book is veryveryvery tiring to read and it is just plain flat out BORING. DONT EVER READ IT EVER EVER EVER.

Sorry you feel that way. There's a lot to be learned from reading this "boring" book. Maybe in a few years you'll come back to it and appreciate it more. In the meantime, why not try "Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain, or "Holes" by Louis Sachar.

How can you just read through the book without even thinking about the meaning? Can't you at least try to associate with the characters? The quality I enjoyed most about the book was the relationship between all of the characters. Okay, so the beginning went a little slow, but the end was so exciting! How could you miss that? I am in 9th grade, and I can say that I am not nearly as shallow as a year 11 student.

It is boring because your teacher is a moron. Dickens is not for 11 year olds. Your teacher should know better.

I totally agree with you that this is a boring book, and hey we all know dickens is wordy anyway, and guess what? He was paid BY THE WORD for this one, so that explains most of it. All I have to say is that it gets better in the end. Most books take 100 pages to get going and get interesting and get exciting... this one just happens to take 400 pages to get to that point... HOLD ON and KEEP READING! It's worth it in the end!!!

I am also a student studying this book, and I can understand your frustration. Dickens is known for his "wordy" writing style, and it can get on the nerves of someone forced to read it. This is why I recomend reading the full version of the novel AT YOUR OWN PACE before you are so assigned to avoid the absolute boredom. It's really a good story if you give it a chance instead of being what I call "force-read".

I am a yr 11 student that has to read this booooring book. I feel sorry for every other student who has to read this boring story, that goes on and on. It lacks a lot of things like any interest or character to it. I would advise any other students that have to study this book to find chapter summaries instead of reading it. This would save a lot of time for other things
