I'm not usually a thread starter, but Claes said to give his regards to everyone and he will return soon. He said he misses everyone. He had to take time out because he was incredibly busy and approaching burnout.

It will be so good to have Claes back. :)

Thank you.

As Vonny mentioned, the fact that that I was heading for burnout finally penetrated my thick skull, and I decided to simply drop everything that was not strictly necessary while I was sorting things out. I have been picking things up again for some time and just as I was beginning to consider a return to LitNet, Vonny turned up and gave me a little wake up call. Talk about timing, eh?

Well, here I am.

Thank you all,

The advice from qimissung and Robin is good. The fact is that I did not truly burn out, but I came awfully close. I know what caused it, and it was not entirely down to work. It is true that I have been working too much, but the main reason was my worst Achilles heel: I sometimes care too much. First my boss burnt himself out big time, and I tried to keep some of his tasks going (we shared the load across our department which is not a big one, and I was not the only one who suffered). Then another bloke (also in our department) got hit by one of the worst cases of broken love affair blues I have ever witnessed. Needless to say I brushed most of the ordinary agenda aside for a while in order to keep him afloat. Afterwards I had to deal with all the things that had been postponed in the process.

My former boss is now retired, and my friend has recovered reasonably well, but somehow these things seem to be contagious: In the end it all caught up with me, and I finally realized that I had to pull the plug on a lot of things and tend to myself for a while. So I did... and now I am back, hopefully a bit wiser.

Feel free to learn from my experience. You do not necessarily need to repeat it if you know what I mean.
