I like the twist at the end of this...
But it was a strange read. The plot tends to jump about rather haphazardly - especially when John thinks back to his childhood - and his behaviour is rather bizarre.
Also it's written mostly as a sequence of declarative sentences - rather like a list of statements jotted down by a newspaper reporter. Perhaps it was done that way to mirror the way the thoughts appear inside John's head... but I found the style distracting and rather monotonous after a while.
Also the plot itself lacks tension (given that it's a murder mystery) and there's not really a natural flow to the story arc.
Definitely a good start, but the style is rather too cold and impersonal to make much impact.
